County Jail Release Paths
St. Francois County Jail is the county detention facility operated by the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department. It holds people through local booking and custody, not people serving a Missouri prison placement at Farmington Correctional Center or Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center. A person may leave the jail after a judge authorizes bond or recognizance, after dismissal, when a local sentence is complete, or when time served satisfies the custody order. Confirm a County Jail Release
The official sheriff page located during research is a contact page, not a historical release archive. No verified official St. Francois County rolling release list, archive window, update rate, or former-booking retention promise was found. A current roster, if the sheriff links one later, answers only whether a person is displayed in current custody. Removal can follow release, transfer, hospitalization, escape, death, or a data change. It cannot stand alone as a release finding.

Get the Jail Release Record

Identify the person, approximate booking dates, and booking number if known. Request the booking sheet, release sheet or custody-release log entry, recorded release date and time, releasing authority, release code or reason, bond information, and transfer destination if those fields exist. Ask for electronic copies, an advance itemized estimate, open portions of partly closed records, and a statutory citation for each denial or redaction.
Send the request to the sheriff, not to the county prosecutor merely because the prosecutor publishes a separate request form. Confirm the sheriff’s current records custodian and submission method before sending private identifying details. Chapter 610 generally requires action as soon as possible and no later than the end of the third business day, unless the custodian gives a detailed reason and earliest access date. Do not send a Social Security number. A date of birth can be supplied privately when it is needed to separate two people, but it should not be republished. Missouri law can close or redact parts of law-enforcement records. Request the segregable public portions and accept lawful limits.

St. Francois Custody Systems
St. Francois County has an unusual custody map. Two MODOC prisons operate inside the same county as the sheriff jail. Farmington Correctional Center and ERDCC are state institutions. Their records do not become county jail records merely because the buildings are nearby. District 12/Farmington Community Supervision Center is also on Doubet Road, but it is a probation and parole site. Someone who reports there is not on a jail roster simply because the office is close to the sheriff facility.
The custodian should control the search. Use the sheriff for a Doubet Road county booking. Use MODOC for FCC or ERDCC confinement and state supervision. Use BOP for a federal prisoner and ICE for immigration detention. This system choice prevents a common error: reporting that a person was released when the person was moved from one custodian to another.

Two State Prisons Nearby
The local custody split is central to every St. Francois facility search. FCC and ERDCC sit in St. Francois County, yet neither is the St. Francois County Jail. Its landing page excludes discharged offenders, so no result cannot prove that state custody ended.
ERDCC has reception and diagnostic functions. Movement away from ERDCC may reflect classification and placement at another Missouri prison. County release and state discharge records remain separate even when the same person passes through both systems. A county release sheet may show delivery to MODOC. St. Francois Jail History
The sheriff’s history adds a specific local frame. The administrative portion of the current facility began as a 1938 Works Progress Administration dairy barn that served State Hospital No. 4. It was remodeled in 1996. The former Franklin Street jail had 44 beds, while the move to Doubet Road expanded capacity to 188 beds. These facts explain the facility’s local setting and growth. They do not establish a current release schedule, records practice, or population count.
Historical capacity should not be used to guess how fast a person will be processed. Release timing can turn on court paperwork, bond processing, sentence calculations, and holds from other agencies.
